Furtado’s progression from Portuguese-?Canadian pop-folkie to urban-radio dance-floor minx went fairly smoothly. Her latest incarnation — perhaps best described as Latina easy listening — puts her in a long line of chart divas (J. Lo, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera) who have jumped on the álbum en español bandwagon, and the results are not so muy bien. Without the Midas touch of studio magician Timbaland, Furtado has only her nasal, pleasant-enough vocals and a distinctly middlebrow musicality. Tracks like ”Fuerte” find a decent Timba-lite groove; the rest are, at best, inconsequential. C
