Barry Manilow’s music is getting the big-screen treatment. Variety reports that Michael Stipe and Sandy Stern’s Single Cell is working with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone to develop a romantic comedy using Manilow’s song catalog. Manilow himself has also pledged his support to the project, and will perform a song or two in the film. Manilow’s manager Garry Kief will also produce. The team says the film will be a character-driven romantic comedy about the singer’s fans who converge on Las Vegas for a big Manilow concert at Mandalay Bay. Manilow will also work in shaping the story once a writer is hired.
