Mariah Carey’s new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel may have been pushed back to Sept. 29, but at least we have her cover of Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” to see us through the delay. Take a listen, below, and tell us what you think.

“I Want to Know What Love Is” is the second single to be released in advance of Memoirs; the first one, “Obsessed,” has performed well, reaching as high as No. 11 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, but has yet to become a truly ubiquitous smash on the order of “We Belong Together” or “Touch My Body.” Can this one do better? I’m thinking it just might have a shot. Nostalgia for the cheesetastic ’80s is a powerful thing, as the success of the Glee kids’ “Don’t Stop Believin'” this spring should remind us. And an old-fashioned power ballad might be just the thing Mariah’s fans have been waiting for — at least, the fans who remember the days when she was best known for songs like this. If nothing else, I can’t imagine “I Want to Know What Love Is” not dominating adult-contemporary radio.

But I could be wrong. Let us know: How do you like Mariah’s Foreigner cover? Do you think it will meet with more success than “Obsessed”?

UPDATE: Streams of Mariah Carey’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” cover are being taken down left and right, but the song is out there. For now, a new stream is below.
