''Eclipse'' gets a new Victoria -- Bryce Dallas Howard gets cast in a key supporting role for the vampire sequel

Twihards were in a tizzy last week, when news broke that Rachelle Lefevre — who originated the role of sultry, venomous Victoria — was being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for the third Twilight film. The reason? ”Scheduling conflicts.” The relatively unknown Lefevre issued a statement saying she was ”stunned” and ”saddened” by the decision, and rather miffed that Summit Entertainment wouldn’t work around her shooting schedule for the indie movie Barney’s Version. (She claimed the filming overlapped by a mere 10 days.) But the studio fired back, noting, ”The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker.” That certainly shouldn’t be news to Lefevre. Back in April, on the set of New Moon, she chatted candidly about the tight timetable for the upcoming film. ”[I have] a couple of films in the running for the summer,” she told EW then. ”It really is a scheduling thing. Eclipse is my priority. In it, my character gets even bigger and it will be a more demanding schedule.” Looks like Howard was more than happy to clear her calendar.
