It’s the time of year when precocious youngsters pose for pictures on their front lawns and fumble with corsages. Yes, it’s prom season, and like most other high-school-related things we remember (or try to forget), there’s a soundtrack attached. All I remember thinking during my prom (besides cursing myself for spending so much money on that damn sparkly dress) was, “Who the hell picked this song?” My Class of 2002’s prom song was “There You’ll Be,” a terribly mediocre track (by Faith Hill) from a terribly mediocre movie (Pearl Harbor.) Because nothing says awkward slow dance like reflecting on one of our nation’s great tragedies! Not that I had the highest expectations for that evening, but this was the best they could do? Isn’t there an entire Boyz II Men catalog devoted to this stuff? Maybe we just came of age in the wrong prom-song era, but I know there have got to be some gems out there. So how about it, Music Mixers? Did you sway to KC & JoJo’s “All My Life” or Eve 6’s “Here’s to the Night”? Or did you avoid eye contact throughout Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’ “Endless Love? Share your prom-song hits and misses below.
