Say it ain’t so, Kirstie Alley. On The Oprah Winfrey Show today, the former Cheers star went back to the same stage where she previously pranced around in a bikini after losing 75 lbs and literally apologized — apologized! — for gaining it all back. How come, girl? Alley owes no explanation to anyone — least of all to the queen of yo-yo dieters — for having to retreat to her fat jeans. But there she was, coming clean about losing motivation once her deal with Jenny Craig expired.

I’m all for taking responsibility (hell, even I need to start facing facts that dousing my lunch in creamy sauces is not gonna get me closer to a svelte size 6). But doing it on national TV? Uh-uh. No way. Alley’s public display of fat candor ended up saying less about her need to appear self-aware and responsible and more about her obvious desire to find a new sponsor — like Weight Watchers or Slimfast. Or maybe she just wanted to plug her new weight loss program. Whatevs. Stop the madness, Kirstie! You look fine the way you are (though I give mondo credit to those fabulous lighting guys on Oprah).

What did you think of the appearance? Did it make you love Alley — or feel sorry for her?
