Thursday night’s return of ABC’s Private Practice, which had been in reruns since March 26, did serious damage to NBC’s new cop series Southland in the 10 p.m. hour. Southland had maintained 97 percent of its premiere viewership for last week’s second episode, but this week’s third episode dipped 17 percent in total viewers. A new Grey’s Anatomy at 9 p.m. nudged viewership down for CSI, The Office, and 30 Rock as well, even though viewership for Grey’s itself was down nearly 20 percent since its last new episode.
