BumpTop, the long-anticipated desktop whimsy factory which first came to sorta public knowledge at the 2007 TED conference, is finally available to the masses, and boy oh boy, it is cute and fun and probably not something you need but still might really enjoy.

See? Funsies. My favorite part of BumpTop is that it looks like the future — when the future was imagined in the early ’90s. Think of the computer Lex uses towards the end of Jurassic Park, or the office intranet on Profit — which had virtual versions of everyone’s desk. In the (past’s idea of the)future, your desktop will be like a real desk!
