Nat King Cole?s music hardly needs hip-hop beats to sound fresh; 44 years after the singer’s death, his voice still resonates with an eternal cool. Fortunately, the acts on this smartly assembled remix disc agree, which results in a tribute album more tasteful than most. Highlights from Re: Generations include Cut Chemist’s ”Day In Day Out,” Stephen and Damian Marley?s reggaefied ”Calypso Blues,” and a funky take on ”Straighten Up and Fly Right” by will.i.am and Cole?s daughter Natalie. On ”Nature Boy,” TV on the Radio even make a convincing case for the King?s place among art-rock royalty. B+
