Personally, I would see just about anything starring Johnny Depp. And I’d also see anything directed by Michael Mann (except for maybe Miami Vice). Put them together and I’m buying a ticket months in advance. So, it’s thrilling to see that the two have delivered on that promise with Public Enemies, at least based on the film’s trailer, which was released today.

Depp plays Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger and Christian Bale is the FBI agent assigned to bring him down. If you’ve seen Heat (and if you haven’t, you are a bad person!), you know that Michael Mann is one of the best action directors ever and can stage a bank robbery like no one else; Heat‘s central robbery set piece, set in downtown Los Angeles, is one the most visceral, exhilarating sequences ever put on screen. We have to wait until July 1st to see if Enemies can achieve classic status but, until then, the trailer at least rocks. Don’t you agree?
