If Bridget Jones had ditched her diary and gone for a year of ?intensive psychotherapy ? instead — which would have spared us all from that dreadful sequel, by the way — she might have written something like Lorna Martin’s funny, poignant memoir, Girl on the Couch.? The Scottish journalist, adrift in the throes of depression, decided to hit the couch to piece together the ?fractured moments from her past ?and find the courage to step away from a romantic affair gone awry. ?The book — like our heroine — has some flaws, but flourishes at its funniest and most self-aware moments. ?Neurosis is hardly ever charming, ?but Martin somehow manages to pull it off.
