Hello, Canada! So it seems my rip on the Juno Awards nominations yesterday has touched something of a nerve, and I was shocked and amazed to find out how many of you consider the Junos to be a big fat joke. But it got me thinking: If the powers that be can’t be trusted to properly represent Canadian music abroad, then we must fight the power! Thus do I call for the first-ever American magazine-sponsored populist recount of another country’s awards show, to be conducted here on PopWatch, here in this post.

How it works: I have posted a list of categories below. Using the general guidelines for this sort of thing (must be good, it must have been released or achieved prominence in 2008, it must be Canadian, it can but probably should not be Nickelback), please nominate at least one and no more than five artists and/or albums in each category. Post your choices in the comments section. Feel free to campaign as hard as you wish for your favorites in order to gain more nominations, but only in articulate sentences (no excessive caps/exclamation points, please). Try not to log in under too many different pseudonyms.

At some point in the indeterminate future, I will tabulate the votes and post the official EW Readers Reject The Juno Awards Nominations. These will henceforth be known as the Heras. If I get enough noms and it seems interesting enough to people, maybe we’ll even pick winners. Who knows. This is an experiment. Like diplomacy. Go.
