Danny Boyle‘s win at the Directors Guild Awards over the weekend means Slumdog Millionaire is now only the fourth film to sweep the DGA, PGA, SAG, Golden Globe, and Broadcast Critics prizes. The other three — American Beauty, Chicago, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King — all ended up winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Although Slumdog‘s Oscar dominance seems more inevitable than ever, I’m still hearing of a vocal minority that is turned off by the film, particularly its upbeat end-credits dance sequence. I can’t say I agree; I think those final three minutes are the perfect exclamation point on the movie. In the third and final segment of my OscarWatch interview with Boyle, we talk about Slumdog‘s ending and why the film needed to take place in Mumbai.
