It’s a shame that American Teen, Nanette Burstein’s (The Kid Stays in the Picture) engaging doc chronicling the senior year of five Indiana high schoolers, was such a massive box office flop. How else to explain the dreadfully low-rent DVD? A movie that captures Gen-Y’s obsessively interactive, blog-and text-errific culture deserves better EXTRAS than a few stultifying cast interviews. Even the bonus footage of breakout star Bailey is a letdown. Teen: B+ Extras: C?
