The fine people of Defamer put together a video reel yesterday of what they decided were David Letterman’s shining moments this year, eight highlights that included him telling Lauren Conrad that maybe she’s the problem and discovering the live feed of John McCain sitting with Katie Couric after blowing Dave off. It’s a fun look back at a 12 month period that I think we can all agree was one of the Late Show‘s best in a long while, but I don’t think it’s by any means complete. First and foremost, you’d have to include that glorious moment when Dave dropped the words “Gordon Liddy” on McCain. (I cheered at home.) I’d also add his brief makeout session with Will Smith and every single one of his “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches” — this guy’s YouTube channel has a bunch compiled, and I’ve embedded a random sampling below to get you started.

Meanwhile, PopWatchers, weigh in! What are your fondest Letterman memories from 2008?
