Famously suppressed in America, White Dog, Samuel Fuller’s uncompromising, poignant examination of racism, was deemed too incendiary for a sensitive public and too unmarketable for a studio seeking ”Jaws on Paws.” Centering on an adopted German shepherd trained to attack black people, Fuller’s unjustly withheld film is a gripping, meditative, and ultimately beautiful achievement that, as co-writer Curtis Hanson says in the compelling EXTRAS, studied bigotry as a learned poison — a sickness tough to cure.
