Viewable as a timeline, flipbook, or list: a survey of American breakfast cereals, from 1897 (Grape Nuts) to 1989 (Honey Bunches of Oats). We wonder why the person(s) behind this utterly worthwhile endeavor stopped nine nineteen years ago: Kellogg alone launched three new cereals since then. (Of course, one of them was Pokemon, which has long disappeared from supermarket shelves, so maybe these guys do know what they’re doing.) So here then, are the inevitable questions: What are your favorite cereals? How often do you eat cereal for breakfast? And which of you, like me, can discern no real difference between (very expensive) name brands and (relatively cheap) generic brands?
