Both NBC’s The Biggest Loser: Families and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars results show nabbed their highest ratings of the year on Tuesday night, according to preliminary data. Loser pulled in 8 million viewers at 8 p.m., while Dancing attracted 17 million at 9 p.m. But neither show was able to help its network stop CBS’ stranglehold on Tuesdays. The Eye took the night for the fifth straight week of original programming (debates not included), with an average 15.1 million viewers. CBS had even more to cheer about: Freshman drama The Mentalist (star Simon Baker is pictured) continued to add viewers for the third consecutive week and scored its best ratings yet (16.1 million).

Second place ABC, meanwhile, averaged 11.7 million viewers, airing Halloween mainstay It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (10.4 million) at 8 p.m., Dancing at 9 p.m., and the steadily declining Eli Stone (7.8 million) at 10 p.m. One of Eli’s biggest problems is holding on to its viewers during a single episode: Of the 8.7 million people who tuned in at the beginning of the hour, more than two million tuned out before the end. Over at third-place Fox, House stayed strong with 13.1 million viewers (exactly matching last week’s tally), while a rerun of Fringe’s premiere attracted 6 million. NBC lagged in the fourth-place spot with an average 8.4 million watchers. The aforementioned Biggest Loser: Families showed improvement at 8 p.m., but Law & Order: SVU experienced a slight decline at 10 p.m. The Dick Wolf drama earned its lowest ratings of the fall so far, with 9.2 million viewers. Finally, the CW’s 90210 returned at 8 p.m. after two weeks of reruns, attracting 3.2 viewers. And 9 p.m.’s Privileged managed to hold on to 70 percent of that audience, averaging 2.2 million viewers, its biggest ratings in three weeks.
