Queens rapper Junclassic (pronounced ”June classic”) makes the kind of music that will never get too many radio spins. Nor, presumably, does he spend much time longing for such mainstream exposure: He’s a gravel-throated Everyman, not a flashy braggart. In the world of indie rap, though, his offbeat stream-of-consciousness rhymes could give him a solid shot at (relative) stardom. And on Overqualified they’re well served by the beats cooked up by producer l8sho (a.k.a. former EW staffer Neil Drumming), who chops sound with a loose, hazy touch reminiscent of underground heroes like Madlib and MF Doom.
