Learning about seminal pop culture scenes in reverse

Because of all the election frou-frouing, I recently decided it was high time to see one of the greatest political dramas in American cinematic history: All the President’s Men. It was terrific, and I felt pretty embarrassed that as a former journalism student, I’d never seen it before. But what really got my attention was the scene where we meet Deep Throat in an underground parking lot (watch one of Bob Woodward (Robert Redford)’s encounters with DT below). All I could think was, “It’s Cigarette Smoking Man from The X Files!”
