In Desire, a rambling ? meditation on sex ? addiction, Susan Cheever pulls together literary quotes, interviews with experts, and a sketchy account of her own history of compulsive sex. There are fascinating tidbits here (one psychiatrist argues that there’s a correlation between male sex addiction and bulimia). But Cheever never pulls her material into focus. Her book reads like a copiously reported, overlong ? article from a women’s magazine. B?
