For a dude who makes 1/10 of his living writing about trailers and the other 9/10 with my head steeping in all things geek, I’m at a bit of a loss for words about this, the full trailer for The Spirit. One the one hand, there’s no denying that it looks like Sin City 1.5, with the same monochromatic scheme and overheated noir dialogue that just doesn’t sound good when spoken aloud (“Is every damn woman in this damn hellhole out of her damn mind?”) and that, for an adaptation of what was, at times, a gritty look at urban crime, The Spirit seems like a glossy look at “urban” “crime.”

But on the other hand…it looks like cheesy fun. Samuel L. Jackson seems to be having a hell of a time as the gun-happy Octopus and I steadfastly refuse to believe that a film featuring Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, and Sarah Paulson isn’t worth looking at. I’ve got next to no opinion about Gabriel Macht, the actor playing the titular character, other than to note he seems in pretty good shape.

How ’bout you? Are you gonna drop your presents and go see this Christmas Day? (Hell, I’ve just decided that I’ll be there.)
