What's your most egregious pop-culture purchase?
My friend Jim recently bought James Brown‘s bar set from Christie’s, the venerable auction house. Now, keep in mind that (a) Jim is not rich, and (b) he has no room for it in his small New York apartment. But as a superfan of the late soul singer, he just really, really wanted it. Now it’s squeezed awkwardly between his TV set and his sofa. He’s even mentioned moving so that the bar set is more comfortable in its environs.
Have you ever bought a pop-culture totem at an auction, eBay, what-have-you, just because you really, really wanted it, and nothing — a hefty price tag, rationality, your angry spouse — was going to stop you? What was it? Did you have to break the bank in order to afford it? Spill below! It’ll make my friend feel better.
