Tyler Perry's 'Meet the Browns' series lands at TBS

TBS announced today that it has signed on for a second Tyler Perry sitcom, placing a 10-epsiode order for Meet the Browns, a TV spin-off based on characters from Perry’s popular play and movie of the same name. Perry will executive produce, direct, and sometimes write for the show, which will premiere in January. David Mann will reprise his role from the play and film as Leroy Brown, a character who inherits a dilapidated house from his deceased father.Perry also exec produces, directs, and writes for House of Payne, the TBS sitcom that set ratings records for a basic cable sitcom with its two premiere episodes in 2006. Perry’s next movie, The Family That Prey’s, opens Sept. 12.
