A funkier, shallower version of 1994’s Hoop Dreams, Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s doc follows eight high school basketball phenoms as they head to Harlem’s asphalt mecca, Rucker Park, to take part in 2006’s Elite 24 tournament. Some, like trash-talking Michael Beasley (who went second in this year’s NBA draft), will become multimillionaires before their 20th birthdays; others may wind up working at Foot Locker. Unfortunately, Gunnin’ for That #1 Spot — despite its sick above-the-rim highlights and thumping hip-hop soundtrack — glosses over the kids’ lives off the court. B
