Re-Arrange Us

In 2001, spouses Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel quit their day jobs to live out their dreams of being musicians. Soon, the bright-eyed co-vocalists became known for their whimsical, harmonic compositions. With their fifth disc, Re-Arrange Us the duo are still effervescent, if a bit more lyrically plaintive. Though high-energy, the title track is underscored by talk about spicing up a long-term relationship, while the punchy, piano-driven ”Blue and Gold Print” reflects on kids growing up too fast. Rest assured that the State of this musical union remains optimistic; it’s just more thoughtful now. B+
