The Must List: June 6, 2008
Ten Things We Love This Week
1. 24, Season 1 on DVD
Still nostalgic for Jack Bauer’s first bad day? Let the sweet memories pummel you with this Special Edition that’s got two episode commentaries explaining how the clock got its tick.
2. ”I WILL POSSESS YOUR HEART,” Death Cab for Cutie
At eight and a half minutes, the band’s slow-burning track from their No. 1 album, Narrow Stairs, gives you plenty of time to marvel at its hypnotic power.
3. WHAT IT IS, by Lynda Barry
The comic legend’s graphic-art guide only looks scattered. Really, it’s an inspirational tribute to the do-it-yourself creative spirit.
4. DIARY OF THE DEAD on DVD
Zombie master George A. Romero provides a commentary for his horror flick about college kids battling the undead. Forgive us, but we’re foaming at the mouth.
5. CATE BLANCHETT in ‘Indiana Jones’
She’s so dazzling as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull‘s steely, gun-toting Irina Spalko, she almost makes us root for the bad guy.
6. LOU REED on Sirius
Want to know what’s on the rocker’s playlist? Then tune in to his new radio show, Saturdays at 6 p.m.
7. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, Season 3 on DVD
Sure, digital shorts are great, but Emily Litella and the Samurai get us every time. Gilda Radner, John Belushi & Co. kill in this classic season.
8. THIS AMERICAN LIFE on Showtime
Season 2 of the docuseries has looked at boxers, high schoolers, and a dental-floss prison break. But we still think there’s a story behind host Ira Glass’ specs.
9. RICHARD from Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’
Let the other contestants bicker. Season 4’s most creative chef continues to whip up intriguing concoctions like white-chocolate wasabi sauce. Yum. We think.
10. THE SWELL SEASON
They won the Oscar for Best Song, and now the ethereal Once duo are taking their perfect harmonies on tour.
