Woody Allen resumes his obsession with ambition, morality, and guilt in Cassandra’s Dream, a tale of brothers who make a murderous Faustian bargain. Perhaps they’re doing penance for Jonathan Rhys Meyers‘ calculating tennis pro, who got away with murder in 2005’s Match Point. Colin Farrell‘s whimpering sibling can’t stomach the remorse, and his moralistic debates with Ewan McGregor‘s lovesick climber clearly represent the internal back-and-forth of the writer’s mind. If we hadn’t been there with Allen so often before, the journey might be more remarkable. EXTRAS None. B-
