''Ugly Betty'' star America Ferrera will topline the coming-of-age drama ''An Invisible Sign of My Own,'' which marks director Marilyn Agrelo's first feature since her 2005 documentary ''Mad Hot Ballroom''

(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) ? Ugly Betty star America Ferrera is starring in the coming-of-age drama An Invisible Sign of My Own, which is being directed by Marilyn Agrelo (Mad Hot Ballroom). The story, based on Aimee Bender’s novel, is about a 20-year-old loner (Ferrera) who found salvation in math as a child when her father became ill. Now an adult, the woman teaches the subject and helps her students through their own crises. Writers Michael Ellis and Pamela Falk (Wedding Planner) penned the screenplay. Shooting is scheduled to begin soon. Ferrera, who will take a short break in Betty production this May, is expected to shoot Sign before she resumes production on the ABC dramedy in June. This summer, Ferrera appears in the sequel to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and she currently stars in Under the Same Moon. Invisible Sign is Agrelo’s first directorial effort since her documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom, about New York elementary students taking up ballroom dancing, became an indie crossover hit in 2005, earning $8 million.
