(FROM VARIETY) ? Ice Cube is starring in and producing the urban comedy Janky Promoters, which will be developed from a script he wrote. Dimension Films acquired Cubs’e spec script, his first since he penned the final installment of the Friday movies. The story is about two music promoters who get the chance to book a top-tier hip hop artist at a California venue , but their ineptitude causes everything to go wrong. Cube will star with another actor as the promoters, and Dimension chief Bob Weinstein says he’d like to get a big name hip-hop artist to star as himself. Casting will begin immediately with a director to be named soon. Although Cube has found success of late with family comedies (Are We Done Yet?, Are We There Yet?), Weinstein says Janky will be an R-rated affair. Ice Cube just finished starring in and producing the Fred Durst-directed The Long Shots for Dimension (with whom he has a first-look deal), and he is also producing and likely to play the title role in a feature adaptation of Welcome Back Kotter for the studio.
