Edie Brickell turns 42 today, and while her first single, 1989’s “What I Am,” remains her biggest hit, I still can’t understand why radio gave the cold shoulder to “Mama Help Me,” the lead single off her sophomore effort, 1990’s Ghost of a Dog. I’m not aware of too many things, but this shoulda been huge if you know what I mean. Funky beat, bluesy guitars, sing-a-long chorus…what’s not to like? Am I right?
