Amy Adams plays a bubbly American actress who takes on the frumpy ex-governess Miss Pettigrew (Frances McDormand) as her social secretary, then drags her new hire along on a whirlwind London day during which the ingenue bounces between three different men. Let’s just hope the film — based on the 1938 novel by Winifred Watson — doesn’t take that title too literally. (March 7)
