The Oscar-nominated actor was best known for his role as a police chief in Steven Spielberg's ''Jaws''
(FROM AP) – Two-time Oscar nominee Roy Scheider died on Sunday at the age of 75. He passed away at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock. Scheider had been battling multiple myeloma, cancer of the plasma cells, for the past few years, but the hospital did not release a cause of death.
Scheider earned Oscar nominations for his roles in 1971’s The French Connection and 1979’s All That Jazz, but he was best known as the police chief in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws. Scheider’s famous line from the film, ”You’re gonna need a bigger boat,” was voted No. 35 on the American Film Institute’s list of best quotes from U.S. movies.
Scheider also got involved in various political activities, most recently participating in rallies protesting U.S. military action in Iraq. (AP via Yahoo!)
