Standing Still

A man breaks into Claire Cooper’s suburban home and starts to kidnap one of her kids, but Claire implores him to ”take me” instead. He does. Thus begins a weeklong endurance test, as Claire and her captor form an edgy bond.

Bottom Line
Kelly Simmons dilutes the suspense with a lot of backstory about Claire’s troubled marriage, but her invigorating prose in Standing Still beefs up a conventional crime story. B+
