(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) ? David Milch, creator of HBO’s Deadwood and short-lived John From Cincinnati, has set up a third drama pilot in five years at the pay network. Milch is returning to his NYPD Blue roots for the latest project, Last of the Ninth, a gritty cop drama set in New York in 1972. “It is about an older detective’s mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries, and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute,” Milch said to Hollywood Reporter. He and fellow NYPD Blue executive producer Bill Clark (a former New York homicide detective) co-wrote Ninth before the writers strike, and production will start once the strike ends. Milch got his start in Hollywood as a writer on Hill Street Blues. (Hollywood Reporter)
