While recent news of Tyler Perry joining the cast of J.J. Abrams’ much-anticipated Star Trek reboot may have surprised some, Perry actually has been dreaming of getting his sci-fi on for some time now. As he told EW in October, “I love sci-fi. I would love to do an Aliens or a Terminator. I love those movies.” Of course, taking a role in a project is one thing; mounting a giant outer-space spectacle is quite another. As such, the multi-hyphenate stressed that he isn’t quite ready to direct something so elaborate — at least not yet. “I’m not that kind of guy,” Perry said. “I don’t have the creative eye or understanding.”

So it’s safe to say it will be a while before Perry tackles Madea Goes to Mars.
