Q&A with Posh Spice -- Victoria Beckham talks about the Spice Girls, kids, and Hollywood

The group kicks off a worldwide tour at the beginning of December. So why did this Spice Girls summit take so long to come together? People have been talking about a reunion for years and years, but that was never us talking about it. As we all know, when the media don’t have anything new to say, they make stuff up. They would always be saying that there’s rifts between us. We’ve been in this industry for long enough to know that they write a load of crap most of the time. Geri had a christening for [her daughter] Bluebell, and we all just sat down together and were laughing about how incredible the success was the first time around, and [the reunion] was the natural thing to do…. The only reason I’m doing this is for my children to see that Mommy was a pop star.

The group’s latest album, Spice Girls Greatest Hits, is being sold exclusively in Victoria’s Secret stores. Was there any talk of packaging it with ”Spice of the Week” underwear? [Laughs] Well, for a start, we’d have two days not enough, wouldn’t we? There are only five Spice Girls. But no.

Maybe for the 20th-anniversary tour? Well, we’ll see — I think this is going to be the only time you’ll get to see the Spice Girls. In 20 years’ time we’ll definitely be too old.

You, Scary, Baby, and Ginger have kids now — will you be bringing a brigade of nannies on tour? I will take a tutor, and we’re going to have [the kids] with us all the time…. We’re very strict moms, and that’s what keeps the children happy. They have a routine even if they’re with us on tour. Children thrive off of routines.

Don’t you all need new nicknames at this point? Does Emma Bunton still want to be called Baby at 31? To be honest, we haven’t really changed at all. Emma’s obviously older, but she’s still the one that we need to look after. I still look very similar. Mel B. still loves her leopard print — and believe me, she is very scary.

You starred in a reality special for NBC this summer and recently appeared on Ugly Betty as yourself. Should we be calling you Hollywood Spice? I get asked to do quite a few acting roles, and acting doesn’t interest me in the slightest…. Ugly Betty happened because I’m a fan of the show. I also got asked to be in the Sex and the City film, which I would love to have done, but because I am in full-on Spice Girls rehearsals, unfortunately I can’t do it…. But it would have been great fun.
