The latest ''Harry Potter'' installment -- J.K. Rowling reveals the existence of a rare eighth book

The latest ”Harry Potter” installment

Only four months after wrapping up her seven-part Harry Potter series in July, J.K. Rowling shocked fans with tantalizing news of an eighth book. But there was a catch: The author handwrote and illustrated just seven copies of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a tome inspired by the collection of fairy tales left to Hermione by Dumbledore in Deathly Hallows. According to Rowling, six of the leatherbound books — which are encrusted with semiprecious stones — will go to Potter ”insiders,” while the seventh will be auctioned on Dec. 13 by Sotheby’s London, with the proceeds (estimated between $60,000 and $100,000) going to Rowling’s Children’s Voice charity. It’s bad news for all but the wealthiest Potterphiles, but fans aren’t crying sour grapes. ”Most of us would kill to see it,” says Melissa Anelli, an editor of Potter fansite The Leaky Cauldron. ”But we’ve got to let this be the special gift that it’s supposed to be.”
