After years of waistlines so low they verged on pornographic, fashion has turned to the other extreme — the high-waisted pant. But there’s more than one way to hike ’em up; just look at today’s fashionistas, who are taking cues from the great icons of the style.

HIGH & WIDE: Katherine Hepburn
Fergie From Hollywood royalty to the Dutchess of Pop — big girls don’t cry but they do up their overalls with sharp red heels.
Jessica Simpson The simple shapes and basic colors? Classic. But steer clear of pleated fronts — for non-skinny Minnies, they’re the devil.

DARK & SEXY: Charlie’s Angels
Kate Bosworth The Superman star, clad in groovy ruffled plaid and rib-grazing denim, looks ready to fight crimes — of fashion!
Gwen Stefani An Angel struts among us, though this one trades feathery locks for a classic chignon with her super-cinched slacks.

OVER-TRENDY: Alyssa Milano
Ashley Tisdale Did the High School Musical star pull up her waistband to show off her booties? Either way, she wins 2007’s Urkel Award.
Rihanna The pop princess must’ve been visited by the fad fairy, looking at these high-riding acid-washed jeans, plunging bustier, and knit hat.
