What are Brian, Nick, Howie, and AJ without Kevin? Ponder that existential puzzler as you listen to Backstreet Boy’s first CD since losing a member last year. The remaining Boys make for a surprisingly sweet barbershop quartet on Unbreakable‘s a cappella intro, and they come close to recreating the sheer euphoria of their biggest pre-Y2K smashes on many of the up-tempo dance-pop numbers that follow. Just skip the soggy adult-contemporary power ballads (see: lead single ”Inconsolable”) if you want to avoid killing that nostalgic buzz. B-
