The 24-year-old actor resurfaced this month in The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising, playing the big bro (who ain’t exactly on the right side of the light) to an immortal charged with saving the world. ”I liked that it was a big, fantastical, action-adventure — so different from what I’ve been doing,” says Smith. His other adventure: costarring with Mischa Barton in Closing the Ring, directed by Richard Attenborough. ”The assistant director worked with Audrey Hepburn,” he recalls. ”He said, ‘She was just like you guys: a little grumpy in the morning, cool by lunch.”’ For now, Smith’s leaning more big-screen than small; he hopes The Seeker begins a steady flow of film work. He’s confident the movie will connect, thanks to a real-world bent (no wizards or orcs here) that distinguishes it from other fantasy. Also? ”It’s totally badass.” We don’t think Audrey ever spoke like that.
