First, there was The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. Then came The Colbert Report. And now… Important Things With Demetri Martin? Comedy Central announced today that they’ve picked up Martin’s solo series, which Stewart is producing. It sounds promising enough — the deadpan mop-topper’s “Trendspotting” segments have brightened many a Daily Show episode, and his own website has enough other funny clips to convince me to tune in when Important Things gets started.

Still, I can’t say Martin’s the most obvious choice for the second cast member to break out with his or her own show. Just imagine some of the other possibilities: Samantha Bee’s This Week in God, four times a week! Last night’s “Specularium” sketch, where the correspondents gathered for a nonsensical McLaughlin Group-style roundtable, expanded to its full potential! John Oliver, talking about anything whatseover for 30 minutes!

So which Daily Show spin-offs would you rather see, P-Dubs? Or should Stewart’s production company start developing some new shows that don’t involve stretching existing cast bits ad infinitum?
