For most of his solo debut, Train singer Pat Monahan sticks to the middle-of-the-road rock that’s been his band’s bread and butter — and has made the Goo Goo Dolls sound like risk takers by comparison. As a result, your best bet is to cherry-pick Last of Seven‘s handful of appealingly creepy blue-eyed-soul cuts, which break free from Train’s dull jangle. ”Raise Your Hands” rides a nifty electro-gospel groove, while ”Girlfriend” could be the ”She Will Be Loved” Maroon 5 didn’t include on their latest.
