This preposterous, overplotted thriller that badly (and I do mean badly) wants to be the next Basic Instinct still doesn’t resolve whether Halle Berry will ever make a good movie again. The star plays a blank-faced, hot-bodied journalist trying to solve a murder by posing as a temp in suspect Bruce Willis’ company; Giovanni Ribisi is her twitchy accomplice. Who to blame? How about screenwriter Todd Komarnicki, who, in the EXTRAS, praises Ribisi for jamming ”a firecracker up the butt of the character.” (???) Sadly, the dialogue in Perfect Stranger is not even that good. D+
