Rick Springfield turns 58 today, and PopWatch pauses to honor his ability to pull off a pink suit in the video below — of him singing “Whenever I Call You Friend” with Cheryl Ladd in 1982. Seriously, Cheryl Ladd sings. And honestly, I kinda want him. At least until he starts dancing.

In related news, Springfield will be singing on General Hospital for the first time tomorrow, Aug. 24. He’ll be performing “Who Killed Rock ‘n Roll?” from an upcoming album due out in 2008. (You know you want to hear his answer. And see the perp prosecuted to the full extent of the law.) In a press release, GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelpsthe says, “The town of Port Charles is literally going to rock. Long-time viewers as well as Rick Springfield fans will be entertained, while new viewers will see why General Hospital is appointment television.” She might be right. The storyline: Dr. Noah Drake (Springfield) is forced to impersonate hospital patient/rock star Eli Love (Springfield in a dual role) when Love needs an emergency surgery and can’t make a charity concert. Love it already.
