Lori McKenna was a fairly dark New England folkie before being noticed by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. The latter co-produced this leap to the majors, with a beefed-up, full-band sound and some brighter themes that suggest a more emotionally direct Shawn Colvin. McKenna is most fascinated by long-term unions, whether they’re crumbling or crystallizing, and her most compelling moments come on Unglamorous from that second category: ”Witness to Your Life” and the title track are two of the most engaging pop paeans to mature, married love you’ve ever heard.
