WHAT SHE’S DOING The singer-songwriter from Eureka, Calif., is enjoying overnight iTunes success thanks to ”Love Song,” a piano-driven jam from her debut, Little Voice. Having just finished opening for blues rockers Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, Bareilles, 25, embarks on her second stint supporting Maroon 5 this fall.

HOW SHE’S DOING IT With soulful jazz vocals reminiscent of Fiona Apple and addictive pop melodies like Sarah McLachlan’s.

WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR HER Bareilles has played more than 300 gigs. ”In San Francisco, during [the ballad] ‘Gravity,’ the whole crowd put up their cell phones. I couldn’t believe that was happening — I’ve been that fan putting up my phone! It was really special to be on the receiving end of that.”
