Elaborate arrangements and Bryan Ferry’s tremulous articulation might seem at odds for an album of Bob Dylan covers (Dylanesque)…and they are, except when these radical reinterpretations work. ”Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” and ”Simple Twist of Fate” quiver with controlled agony. But the rapturously poisonous ”Positively 4th Street” sounds like Ferry is dressing down his butler for handing him the wrong ascot. Nothing here is as potent as his 1973 cover of ”A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” but he really hears familiar songs in new ways.
