ANTIDOTE TO The splashy arachno-action of Spider-Man 3.

WHY WE’RE EXCITED For her feature directorial debut, Sarah Polley didn’t hold back, tackling an emotionally complex short story by Alice Munro and hiring Julie Christie to star as an Alzheimer’s-afflicted woman who moves into a nursing home. Costarring Gordon Pinsent as Christie’s husband and Olympia Dukakis as the wife of a fellow patient, it’s a sophisticated drama that won plaudits at the Toronto and Sundance fests. (May 4)

POLLEY SAYS ”It might be the big upset of the year. We’re going to mop the floor with Spider-Man. Even though our movie is released in only two cities at first!”
