The subtitle of Rebecca Walker’s Baby Love, ”Choosing Motherhood After a Lifetime of Ambivalence,” speaks to the heart of this thoughtful book. Walker, a prominent feminist and author of 2001’s Black, White and Jewish, deconstructs the struggle of many women who, though weaned on the idea of a woman’s right to choice, have viewed motherhood ”with more than a little suspicion.” Walker also includes details of her contentious relationship with her mother, Color Purple author Alice Walker, and her role as a co-parent to a former lover’s child.
